Each month UCH has given away the entire collection from one service a month to a non-profit doing important work in the wider world. Since Covid times, the amount collected has dropped dramatically so we are widening our time frame to the entire month each group. Check this space for information on current and past partners. You can donate here on this website using the donate button and choosing the social action offering. You can also mail a check to 17 W Maple St. Hinsdale IL 60521 and write your recipient in the memo line. Thank You!
Ongoing Support of Aurora Family Seeking Asylum
UCH is supporting a family that was separated at the border while seeking asylum. They have been reunited with their children and are living in Aurora. CASAS https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIGoVGwkCOc invited our church to help walk with the family.
2/27/22 update on the aurora family
Thank to all of you for your generous support of the recently reunited Aurora family we are “accompanying” on their asylum journey. We have good news to report. You may remember from a couple weeks ago that Bonnie reported that the mom in the family, I’ll call her Maria, had received her work papers. She has already gotten a warehouse job working forty hours a week. In her past life, she was a licensed medical professional, so this work is physically hard and not what she’s used to, but she said, “it’s better to have a job than not to have one.” Unfortunately, the dad, I’ll call him Jose, hasn’t yet received his work papers, but he has an appointment at the immigration office with his attorney this week to see what’s going on. They are very grateful for all the support they’ve received so far. The agency working with them from California, Al Otro Lado, arranged for four months of rental assistance, but as of March 1st, that has run out, and we estimate their monthly expenses for rent, food and utilities, are $2,354. Once Maria gets her first paycheck, we’ll have a better idea of what she’ll be able to contribute. Bottom line, we’re looking to this congregation to continue to support the family with whatever we can until they are both working. They continue to study English, and said they would love to come here and meet all of you kind people, once their language skills improve a bit more.
You can donate to contribute by clicking the donate button and typing Aurora Family in the drop down menu. Gift cards can also be purchased and taken to the church or put in the collection basket with a note labeling the intention.
