UNITARIAN CHURCH OF HINSDALE

GREEN HOME COMMITTEE

On September 25, 2016, the congregation voted “Yes” to proceed with funding and implementation of the Green Home initiative.  Thank you to everybody who joined us.  Please check back here for updates and more information as the project moves forward.

Our windows and solar panels will be before the Village of Hinsdale Plan Commission on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Building, 19 East Chicago Avenue, Hinsdale.

Public notice of the meeting will be published in the Hinsdalean this Thursday.  We will also get a sign from the Village to put outside the RE building, and Jason Hawksworth (solar contractor) and I are going to be mailing out certified letters to neighbors within 250 feet of our property. Click HERE to see the notice.

Mark your calendars, and we should probably try to get any members who live in Hinsdale to attend the meeting too.

Have you made your Green Home pledge yet?  You can download the Green Home Pledge Form here, and turn it into Karen McDowell or any member of the Green Home team.

Vision Statement:

Ensuring that our church home reflects our values.

Values Statement:

These buildings embody our legacy and our aspirations. We invest in them to ensure the continued stewardship of our history, our community, our shared resources, and our planet.

Goal Statement:

In order to ensure our comfort, safety, and future, the Green Home Committee’s goal is to raise $200,000 by December 2016, which would support the replacement and installation of:

  • boilers for both buildings,
  • RE building roof,
  • solar panels,
  • storm windows for the church,
  • air conditioning for both buildings,
  • RE building windows,

and to maintain a building fund for future capital expenses that fall outside of our operating budget.

APPROVED RESOLUTION MAY 15, 2016;

The Congregation has directed the Green Home Committee to continue researching the types and costs of the above improvements and replacements; to begin raising funds for their purchase; to inform the membership of the progress of its work; to solicit suggestions for additional energy-efficient systems from the membership; and to make recommendations for funding the costs of the desired systems.
