Bud Poulson Obituary
Norval E. “Bud” Poulson, 90, of Hinsdale and Sarasota passed away Dec. 2, 2017. He fought cancer and heart disease with courage and strength.
The son of Frank and Astrid Poulson, he graduated from Kelvyn Park High School in Chicago. He then enlisted, at age 17, in the Army Air Corp, working on B-29s at the end of World War II. He was honorably discharged and entered Northwestern University School of Commerce. He was named president of the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity, Zeta Chapter, at Northwestern (1949-50) and is a life member. In 1953 he married Ellen A. Moore, and they resided together in River Forest and Hinsdale for many decades. They had 3 daughters: Carol, Gail and Susan. In 1992, he married Tiffany Glass and they resided in Hinsdale until his death.
He joined the family business, Certified Burglar Alarms, and in 1973 was awarded the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association’s Morris Weinstock “Man of the Year” award. Bud worked on many committees and was chairman of the Research and Education Foundation and a member of the Crime Prevention Committee of Chicago.
For many years he lived on his beloved sailboat, “Tanglefoot,” and truly enjoyed life, extensive travel, European biking, crewing on a dragon racing sailboat, tennis, and his friends and family. He cherished his dogs, Coco and Anjou.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his aunt, Borg Ness; and his older brother, Robert “Pat” Paulson.
He is survived by his wife, Tiffany Glass; his former wife (Ellen M. Poulson); his children, Carol (Don) Nistler, Gail (Jim) Sutton and Susan (William) Poulson-Houser; his six grandchildren Sara Misemer, Ryan Nistler, Robert Poulson-Houser, Laura Poulson-Houser, Bridget Sutton, Julia Poulson-Houser; two great-grandchildren; and his brother, Charles Britton Poulson (Marlene).
A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Saturday Feb. 17th, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 17 W Maple St, Hinsdale, IL.
