Stewardship

Next comes our commitment to act as a congregation—in our homes and in the world.  This is Stewardship.  We developed a “High-Impact List” of seven actions that every family can take, and that will have a big effect on the environment. The targets are specific and achievable: Buying $10 of organic food a week; changing at least three light bulbs to compact flourescents; saving a gallon of gas a week; buying carbon credits or investing 5% of your portfolio in alternative energy funds; recycling at least one NEW type of material; working one day a year on an environmental clean-up project; and setting up an environmental program at school or work.

Another aspect of stewardship is developing an active relationship with the environment.  We are arranging opportunities for UCH members to work outside, restoring natural habitat for native plants and animals.  members have put in hundreds of hours at a restoration project at Bemis Woods in Western Springs.
